So now that the "holiday season" is in full swing, I find myself being lovingly offered Eggnog. I really don't like it. I find it thick, overly sweet and just weird tasting. My question is, would making it from scratch change my mind?

Oh I also hate soymilk. I think it just tastes too much like soy beans. But I happen to love SoyNog. Weird.

I would encourage you to try it.
I myself never have, but take some pictures of your adventure and share them.
Experimenting with things is how I always get anywhere, just push a button and hope it doesn't explode in your face.

I looked at it last night and it is Soy Egg Nog from Silk. It is okay by itself, but of course even better when you add booze. It won't bother you if you are lactose intolerant either. But if you drink a whole lot and you don't live alone, think about using Beano. I haven't been able to convert real egg nog drinkers, but I think it would be enjoyed by those who don't like regular egg nog.

Nog is Teh Evil. I hate the stuff, homemade or not. It's like trying to drink custard. Bleccch. I much prefer hot rum punches and the like. Or just a big bowl of rum.

And I love soymilk- I'm not against dairy or anything, but soymilk tastes better to me than animal milk (goat,cow, manatee- whatever).


You could just skip the eggnog and go with "Bailey's", "Sailor Jerry's" and cinnamon YUM!!
I like the Nog from a some of the dairies around here. Glug in some rum (Sailor Jerry's AKA: The Seahorse is the best), sprinkle on some nutmeg and after about a minute the whining nagging kids are almost tolerable. Almost.
I was gunna say...just stick with Baileys and coffee (extra light on the coffee) and skip the evil egg nog altogether

That bottle looks so sad and lonely. Sort of like a vacant house. I hope you have a full one to get you through the holidays. :) As for sipping rum I like Zaya.

And I have purchase the ingredients and will be attempting to make the nog on Friday.
I once had a bad experience with homemade egg nogg. ...though we may not have done it right. Ours was just a bunch of raw eggs mixed with heavy cream, a shit ton of rum (was supposed to have something else as well that we didn't have, so we just tripled-up on the rum), and a bit of nutmeg mixed up in a pitcher, no heat involved.

We made it on a whim one day after my friend asked "What IS nogg?". I was like "I dunno, let's google it!". What we came upon was a recipe. It was like 8am and we'd been up all night, hadn't slept yet, so naturally in our clear-minded states, thought it'd be a fun little project to go through with this recipe.

We ended up drinking the whole pitcher by like 9am. This was like 4 years ago, but I remember vividly that it tasted simply like "rum and heavy cream, with a hint of raw eggs", and I remember laying in my bed groaning, while my friend Tyson was sprawled out on the floor doing the same. In retrospect, maybe we shouldn't've made the first recipe we came across.
