So I finally found the time to book my airfare for the July 4th festivities. I'll be arriving at the Venice / Marina del Rey area on July 2nd and was wondering if anyone could recommend any decent drinking establishments.

I prefer to avoid common tourist traps and tend to enjoy places that are more conducive to conversation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated... Skol!

Thanks Cindi,

I was just speaking with my brother. He spent several years in the Long Beach area and seemed to recall a place called the "Whaler" with a rooftop bar. I'll need to google it to verify that it still exists.

This looks like a job for our tiki guru Humuhumu and her website Critiki.
Not only will you know where the tiki bars are, you can find out how good they are before you go.

It looks like there are a few to choose from there. One is pretty close by.
Thanks Captn'

Very cool and useful site... I think Happy Hour is going to have to start a bit early this evening. All of this drinking establishment research is making me really thirsty.

Maybe it's this one...

It"s a bit of a trek from Venice, but Tiki Ti is a must visit. Think of it like a tiki Pilgrimage. The drinks are well worth it but you may wanna try getting there earlier than later as it's tiny and gets packed quickly.

Other than that and maybe Trader Vics I don't know many places do even drink at, and I Live near Venice! So I'm just as curious about the answers to your question as well.
That has to be the place! Rooftop bar, live music, on the beach and within stumbling distance to my hotel. It's a damn good thing I'm taking a week off to start "practicing" for the July 4th adventure.

Thanks for the info Bloodyanne!

You have to hit one of the SoCal official tiki bars! Sure, its a bit of a drive, but... come on... its a tiki bar!

Tiki-Ti (LA)
Don the Beachcomber (Huntington Beach)
Purple Orchid (El Segundo - Probably the closest)
You're right Angel that does seem to be pretty far away from where I'm staying. Google maps needs a "cab ride calculator" between two points. I mean they've got the distance calculations already in the database. All they need is fare amounts per region. Wait... I think I just invented something... if you are reading this message all intellectual property (and derivatives) are solely owned by "me" © 2009. Yes, I will split all profits with Tiki Bar TV.

Tiki Ti looks like a pretty cool place, thanks for the tip. I'm sure I feel adventurous enough (read as severely buzzed) to take cab out to the Tiki Ti. I can never turn down a good bar/lounge recommendation... it's a personality flaw.

Okay, that's two recommendations for Tiki-Ti... clearly a must see. Thanks TikiGeeki!
