So I finally found the time to book my airfare for the July 4th festivities. I'll be arriving at the Venice / Marina del Rey area on July 2nd and was wondering if anyone could recommend any decent drinking establishments.

I prefer to avoid common tourist traps and tend to enjoy places that are more conducive to conversation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated... Skol!

Yes look for the neon "Cocktails" sign and turn left

Headed for the bar, be aware that it is off to the left of the main dining area. Actually, it has it's own entrance outside as well, so rather than heading in directly, cut along the left of the front of the building and you can't miss it.
Ah, ok. Don's then. I guess it's not so bad since I haven't been before, but it's a bit of a trek. At least I don't live in the Valley! ;)

What time? Lets make this all official and stuff.
There's an invite in the events postings. You'll like it. Maybe you can work out a carpool situation with someone.

OK, I'm going, Molson, I'll pick you up, if you fall down.
Ah, so there is then. Nicely done.

I understand the 3rd is a working day for you. To simplify things I could take a cab from the marina to your LAX hotel. Just let me know, and thanks again for the offer!

The bar at Tony P's (http://www.tonyps.com/) is quite relaxed an non-pretentious. Certainly more local and laidback than most other things in the LA area.

If they have Bloody Marys (and sunglasses) for breakfast, then they oughta go on the list.
I've got all day/night Thursday to explore the local establishments... this place happens to be on the same street as my hotel. Thanks for the suggestion Jim!
